Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
04 - 10 November 2024

Solar activity ranged from low to high levels this period. R1 Click on link below
(Minor) radio blackouts were observed on 04-10 Nov, R2 (Moderate) to read the full weekly
radio blackouts were observed on 04, 06 and 10 Nov and R3 (Strong) http://services.swpc.noaa.gov/text/weekly.txt
radio blackouts were observed on 06 Nov. Regions 3883 (S06, L=076,
class/area Fkc/420 on 08 Nov) and 3889 (S10, L=005, class/area
Fko/480 on 10 Nov) produced a majority of the activity this period.

Region 3883 produced an M5.5 flare at 04/1508 UTC. Region 3887 (N16, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration logo

L=151, class/area Dsi/140 on 06 Nov) produced an M5.8/Sf flare at
06/0850 UTC. Region 3889 produced an M5.3/1f flare at 06/1438 UTC
and an M9.4/2b flare at 10/1206 UTC. The M9.4 flare had an
associated Type II Sweep with an estimated 928 km/s velocity and a
400 pfu Tenflare. The largest flare of the period was an X2.3/Sf at
06/1340 UTC with an associated Type II Sweep with an estimated 205
km/s velocity. During the period, a total of 52 C-class, 39 M-class
and 1 X-class flares were observed.

Solar activity is expected to be at moderate levels (R1/R2 -
Minor/Moderate), with a chance for high levels (R3-Strong) from 11
Nov - 07 Dec. The disk is expected to feature numerous complex
regions throughout the outlook period.

No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit. However,

Highlights October 2024

The solar activity in October2024 was a month with higher numbers than September.
Largest regions were numbers 3826, 3827, 3812, 3820 and 3828.

Several flares appeared in October.
Region 3842 produced a powerful X9-flare on the 4th October.

The total list of SSG can be found at https://www.cv-helios.net/specialreports/regionlisting-SSG.txt
Daily updates of regions: Hit https://www.cv-helios.net/cvmisc3.html for daily updates!
The 13 rot. average for solar cycle 25 now supersedes cycles 23 and 24,
while 6 rot. average already supersedes cycles 22, 23 and 24.
A total of 1139 regions this cycle per end November 2024 (540 regions North and 599 regions South).
At the same time solar cycle 24 produced 848 regions .(389 north and 459 south).
Latest prediction indicate maximum is beginning of August 2025.
Northern hemisphere may even have had its maximum in November 2023!.
We see a fairly flat maximum where spring and summer 2025 may have max.-activity. Updates will come.
We reckon there have passed 1817 days of the new cycle by this issue by 15 October 2024.

Investigating the Solar Flux 10,7 cm/2800 MHz:
It seems the last 44 days of 13 rot. averages solar flux in fact is better comparable
than the equal rising flux period in February to April 1992!
Number of days 13-rot. averages equal to or over 200 is so far on 74 days.
Last time this occurred was in the year 1991 (232 days)..

Reports of aurora borealis still appeares, we look forward to what the lights may contain!

It seems that Maximum for the Northern hemisphere occurred 05 November 2023!
(Southern hemisphere Maximum expected 10 September 2025).

Supergroups-catalogue:
CV-Helios Network is currently working on a catalogue with drawings or photos
of the, currently 863 sunspot regions that exceeded 1000 mvh
in the period of RGO-USAF tables, that is, from 1874 to the current year.

Drawings or photos will be collected from the archives of wellknown different observatories!
Hopefully this catalogue will be published in 2025!  Stay tuned!
