#Weekly Highlights and Forecasts

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 05 - 11 April 2021

Solar activity was very low throughout the period with only B-class flare activity observed. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available imagery.

No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at normal to moderate levels during the period.

Geomagnetic field activity was at quiet levels on 05-06 April and

08-11 April. Unsettled to G1 (Minor) storm conditions were observed on 07 April due to positive polarity CH HSS effects.

News April 2021

Solar activity is still nearly at standstill in this phase of the new solar cycle 25.

There are three regions only worthwhile mentioning:

reg. 2816, lat. S24,long. 264 (rot. 2243), class DAI, 120mvh on 19.04.2021 reg. 2817, lat. N18,long. 330 (rot. 2243), class CSO, 140mvh on 20.04.2021 reg. 2820, lat. S22,long. 209 (rot. 2243), class ESI, 110mvh on 27.04.2021

Some of these were flare-producers and aurora sightings have been reported many places.

The solar flux show a slight downfall at the time of writing, but hope for better times soon.

It is also expected that activity will come to fairly high levels around the first onset of this solar cycle, and that might commence at the end of this year.

Obituary

We have received the sad message that one of our longest and faithully serving members, Andreas Viertel, passed away on the 4th May this year.

He became a victim of the pandemic situation we all struggle against.

Andreas, member number CV-022, has been an active member since 1 Feb 1991 and delivered 5810 CV-observations over that time!

A really good solar observer and solar friend who will be sadly missed

in our network and our goals for another way of doing solar observations. Rest In Peace, dear friend!

MIF2021

We hope the MIF2021 that was introduced to you last month have brought some of you some joy to use.

Please note that if you already have a good system that works well for you, you are NOT obliged to use MIF2021!

We wish you all lots of sunny days, happy observing and good luck in trying out the new MIF2021!

Please remember you are always welcome to contribute with drawings and photos!
