Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity
06 - 12 July 2020

Solar activity was very low throughout the summary period. Region
2766 (N05, L=122, class/area Bxo/010 on 10 Jul) was the only spotted
region and decayed to plage by 11 Jul.

A filament eruption near S29W18 produced a faint, slow-moving CME
signature in LASCO/SOHO C2 imagery beginning at 09/0724 UTC.
Analysis and modeling of the event suggested a possible glancing
blow from the CME around 14 Jul.

No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at
normal to moderate levels throughout the summary period.

Geomagnetic field activity was quiet. No significant periods of
southward Bz were observed.

News June 2020

HAS SOLAR CYCLE 24 FINALLY ENDED?

It may seem so.

The lowest solar flux adjusted center averaged 13 rotations indicate 23 Nov 2019 as the approx. min. date.
The low level did not reach as low as for transition solar cycles 23 and 24,
ending up at 67,93 on 01 Nov 2008.
This time, the cycle transition occurred on 23 Nov 2019 at pfu 69,02, same calculation as above.

Now, using the same calculation scheme as above on our CV-International numbers,
we end up as 10 Nov 2019 as the minimum date with cv 0,48.

Using the other commonly used Relative numbers we end up with the same date as above CV-I,
i.e. either 09 or 10 Nov 2019 at Ri 1,46.

Between 12 and 20 Dec 2019 it may seem we made the maximum number of spotless days
ending up at 255 days with definate days under cv=0,5.

PICK FROM SPACEWEATHERLIVE.COM

The recent M-class solar flare from a sunspot region that belongs to Solar Cycle 25 was a wake up call
for everyone who keeps an eye on the weather in space. Who would have thought that we would see
an M-class solar flare while we are so close to solar minimum? Not many of us that's for sure. It raises
yet again the question... When is solar minimum, or when was solar minimum? Could we have passed
solar minimum? We have seen a couple of Solar Cycle 25 sunspot regions during the past few weeks
and this M-class solar flare was another sign that we might have passed solar minimum already?
Is Solar Cycle 25 really starting to gain traction?
In this news item we will take a look at the evidence and present you with the data we need to
draw a preliminary conclusion.

ISSUES OF MPR AND MPR IN HTML SOON
Work has been done over the past few months to make templates for issuing MPR and AFR as html.
Hopefully we will try the first issue of templated MPR soon. A trial one is issued this month.

WE INVITE YOU TO WRITE A LITTLE PIECE IN THIS SECTION
Please contact Editor by email below.

Next issue editorial close for report contributions is 15th August at 12:00 UTC.

Region 2765 taken from SOHO on 06 Jun 2020 at 1200 UTC.
Postioned at S23 long. 113 in rot. no. 2765,
it clearly makes it another region in the solar cycle 25 history,
and the largest one so far, at 130 mvh on 05 Jun 2020.
It was classified at max. CV-related class DSO on 06 Jun.
On the 9th June it produced a B1 flare.
Otherwise stable and unremarkable.
